Committee formed to fix transshipment fee

Last updated: November 16, 2010

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The government has formed a committee to fix transshipment fee after considering all the relevant factors in this connection, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni has said.

Export-import situation of the two countries, impact of Bangladesh export, marginal savings of India and marginal costs of Bangladesh and other factors will be considered to fix the fee, the foreign minister said at a press conference, held in Dhaka on Monday.

The government in June slapped transit and transshipment fees to the tune of BDT 10,000 per container and BDT 1,000 per tone for bulk import but the SRO was withdrawn a few days back.

The SRO was withdrawn as it was not negotiated with Indians and we will fix a rate which will be a win-win situation for all of us, Dipu Moni reportedly said.
