Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– A five-member probe body has been formed to investigate a road accident in Dhaka city that left senior journalist Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury dead on Saturday night.
Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, the Consulting Editor of The Financial Express, died after he was badly injured while getting down from a bus at Karwan Bazar in the capital around 8:30pm.
After investigation, the committee headed by Moshiur Rahman, director of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, will submit a report in three working days, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said while attending a programme at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital on Sunday.
Zaglul, a former chief editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, met the accident on his way to join a talk show at a private television station in Karwan Bazar.
His body was taken to the mortuary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) from Comfort Hospital last night.
Locals said, the noted columnist was travelling by a bus to go to the satellite TV channel’s office. As the bus slowed down near the police box at the SAARC Fountain (Sonargaon hotel) Intersection, he attempted to get down. ‘But the bus sped up this time and he (Chowdhury) fell on the road,’ witnesses said.
With several injuries in his body and bleeding profusely, he was rushed to Mohona Hospital on Green Road. As the doctors referred for further care, those who rescued him took him to Comfort Hospital in the same area. While undergoing treatment there, the eminent international affairs analyst breathed his last around 8:30pm.
