London, England (BBN) – Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma will arrive in Bangladesh on Sunday on a 3-day visit to discuss with government leaders and the chief election commissioner the progress towards restoration of democracy in Bangladesh.

He will meet with Chief Advisor Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, Foreign Advisor Dr.Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda on October 27, according to a Commonwealth press statement.

These meetings are expected to cover ongoing collaboration between Bangladesh and the Commonwealth in various fields.

Mr Sharma will also discuss the preparations being made for general elections to be held in Bangladesh on 18 December, designed to restore representative governance in the country, as well as progress in reform of the country’s democratic institutions, the statement added.

The Secretary-General will also address the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute on the theme: ‘The Commonwealth – current priorities, future directions’.
