Assam, India (BBN)-The Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) have entered into a conspiracy to make Assam a part of Bangladesh, said Union minister and newly appointed state BJP chief Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday.
“The Congress and AIUDF have entered into a dirty conspiracy of converting Assam into a part of Bangladesh just for the interest of capturing power,” he said at a party rally in Dibrugarh, reports The Indian Express.
He said that the Congress was getting wary of BJP’s growing popularity.
“The Congress is getting wary after seeing that our party is becoming increasingly popular every day. That is why it has launched a misinformation campaign against the BJP,” he said.
Sonowal, who was last week also appointed chairman of the BJP’s election management committee for Assam, was confident that his party would form the next government in Assam.
“There is no doubt that the BJP will form the government in Assam next year. We propose to take along people of all groups, irrespective of language, caste, creed and religion,” he said.
He also hit out at Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for saying that the Assam BJP was being run by Hindi-speaking leaders.
“I want to remind Gogoi that I am an indigenous Assamese,” he said.
It was under Sonowal’s leadership that the BJP had in 2014 won seven of the state’s 14 Lok Sabha seats, restricting the Congress to an all-time low of just three seats.
