Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Nine major South Asian universities including Dhaka University (DU) and Gifu University of Japan have formed a consortium to improve quality of education and research in the region.
The participating universities recently inked an agreement aimed at increasing collaboration among the respective institutions, the DU said in a statement.
The agreement was signed at a roundtable held at the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Gifu University (UGSAS-GU), Japan.
DU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administrative) Professor Dr Sahid Akhtar Hossain signed the agreement on behalf of Dhaka University. 
Besides, representatives of Gifu University (Japan), Assam University (India), Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Bogor Agricultural University (Indonesia), Gadjah Mada University (Indonesia), Sebelas Maret University (Indonesia), Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) and Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam signed on behalf of their respective institutions.
Under the accord, Dhaka University and the other universities will form a powerful chain to formulate future cooperation in education and research. 
It may be mentioned that the eight-day UGSAS-GU Roundtable-2012 towards forming an educational consortium of graduate schools in South Asia was held at GU of Japan from July 18 to July 25. A total of 30 representatives including nine invited guests from different countries attended the program.
