Cyclonic storm 'Jal' moves slightly northwestwards

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) -The cyclonic storm ‘Jal’ over southeast Bay and its adjoining southwest area moved slightly northwestwards over the same area on Saturday.

Intensified into a severe cyclonic storm it was centered about 1485kms south-southwest of Chittagong port, 1405kms south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port and 1410kms south of Mongla port at 9:00am.

“It is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction,” a Bangladesh Metrological Department special bulletin said.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 64kms of the storm centre is about 89 kph rising to 115 kph in gust or squalls. Sea will remain high.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal number two.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
