Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Daewoo International, a Korean trading firm, signed a $30 million deal on Tuesday to supply buses powered by compressed natural gas to Bangladesh.
Under the deal with the state-run BRTC, Daewoo International will ship 255 CNG buses and necessary spare parts by July this year, officials said in Dhaka.
The deal was partly financed by Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund, they added.
The BRTC imported a total of 100 CNG buses from award winning Dongfeng Yangtse Company Limited of China at a cost of BDT 325 million which was around 70 percent lower than its actual cost of BDT 900 million as part of an ambitious plan of the government to offer cheap and eco-friendly transport to the citizens.
