Daily average inter-bank transaction falls in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The amount of average daily inter-bank US$/BDT transaction dropped in last week indicates lower demand for the US currency in the local market, bankers said.
The average daily inter-bank US$/BDT transaction volume came down to $ 57.10 million in the last week, ended on Thursday from $66.68 million of the preceding week, according to the market operators.
They also said US$/BDT market behavior remained unchanged in the last despite recovery trend of commodity prices in the global market.
On the last working day, it was traded around the range of BDT 78.40 per US dollar. The foreign exchange reserve of the country kept its position at over $28 billion.
Most of the banks changed their published foreign exchange rates in the week.
The US$/BDT selling rates for importers of major foreign and private banks fluctuated between BDT 78.58-79.20, while US$ buying rates from exporters ranged between BDT 77.58-78.20.
For non- commercial payments such as telegraphic transfer as donations, wage earners remittance, dollar drafts etc, the average T.T buying rate was in the range of BDT 76.57-77.80 while average T.T selling rate was at BDT 78.8225 on the last working day.
US$-BDT swap market in this week was active. The daily average volume of swap transaction was around $ 39.70 million.
