Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Maritime ports have been advised to replace cautionary signal No. 1 with signal No. 2 on Tuesday as deep depression over southeast bay and adjoining areas intensified into a cyclonic storm ‘Thane’.

“It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-westerly direction,” a special weather bulletin of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54km of the storm centre is about 60kph rising to 70kph in gusts or squalls. The sea will remain rough.

The maritime ports which have been advised to follow the instruction are: Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla.

All fishing boats and trawlers over deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
