Dense fog disrupts ferry service seven hours

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route remained suspended for nearly seven hours till 9:00 am on Sunday as dense fog blanketed the waterway, officials said.

Ferry services remained suspended from 2:00am on Sunday on the route due to the thick fog, a senior official of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha ferry sector said, adding that two ferries in Paturia ghat, four in Daulatdia ghat and three in mid river remained stranded with at least 180 vehicles and more than 1000 passengers.

The communication disruption caused immense sufferings to the people stranded on the ferries and on both sides of the ghats.

Long queues of nearly 500 vehicles were seen on both sides of Paturia and Daulatdia ghats, according to reports.
