Depreciating mode of Bangladesh Taka continues at closing

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The depreciating mode of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) against the US dollar continued following higher demand for the greenback in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on Thursday.
The exchange rate of the BDT against the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 79.71- BDT 79.72 at the evening transactions.
In the opening trading, the exchange rate of the local currency was quoted at maximum BDT 79.72, gaining two paisa more from the previous level.
“The ongoing depreciating mode of BDT may continue in the coming days due to higher demand for the greenback in the market for settlement of import-payment obligations,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank explained to the BBN Thursday evening.
The greenback was quoted at maximum BDT 79.70 from the last Monday to Wednesday.
On Sunday, the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 79.68.
On the last working day of the last week, the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 79.67- BDT 79.68 during the evening trading.
