Depreciating mode of Bangladesh Taka continues at closing

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The depreciating mode of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) against the US dollar continued following higher demand for the greenback in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on Wednesday.
The exchange rate of the BDT against the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.57 at the evening transactions.
In the opening trading, the exchange rate of the local currency was also quoted BDT 80.55-BDT 80.57 unchanged from the previous level.
“The local currency depreciated due to higher demand for the greenback in the market for settlement of import-payment obligations,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank explained to the BBN Wednesday evening.
On Tuesday, the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.55 – BDT 80.57 at closing.
During the early transactions Tuesday, the American currency was quoted BDT 80.53 – BDT 80.55.
From May 22 to opening trade yesterday, the exchange rate of the local currency and the US dollar remained stable that means it was quoted at maximum BDT 80.53 – BDT 80.55.
Bangladesh foreign exchange market remained closed on Friday and Saturday as those were weekend in the country.
