Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The depreciating mode of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) against the US dollar continued following higher demand for the greenback in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on Tuesday.

The exchange rate of the BDT against the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.70 at the evening transactions.

In the opening trading, the exchange rate of the local currency was also quoted at maximum BDT 80.69 – BDT 80.70, same as the previous working level.

“The depreciating mode of local currency continued in the inter-bank foreign exchange market as the demand for the greenback increased following settlement of import payment obligations for capital machineries, food grains and petroleum products,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank explained to the BBN Tuesday evening.

The greenback was quoted at maximum BDT 80.69 – BDT 80.70 on Monday, gaining two paisa from the previous working level.

The American currency was quoted at maximum BDT 80.68 on Sunday.

On the last working day of the last week, the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.68 during the evening trading.
