Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The depreciating mode of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) against the US dollar continued following higher demand for the greenback in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on Thursday.

The exchange rate of the local currency against the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.78 – 80.79 at the evening transactions.

In the opening trading, the exchange rate of the local currency was quoted 80.79, gaining two paisa from the previous working level.

“The depreciating mode of the local currency continued against the US dollar in the inter-bank foreign exchange market due to higher demand for the greenback for making import settlement obligations particularly for food grain imports, petroleum products, capital machineries and scrap vessels,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank (PCB) told the BBN in Dhaka Thursday evening.

On Wednesday, the greenback was quoted at maximum BDT 80.77, gaining two paisa from the previous working level.

On Tuesday, the American currency was quoted at maximum BDT 80.75.

The forex market will remain closed for Friday and Saturday as those were weekend in the international market.
