Deutsche Telekom to provide Internet service on Singapore Airlines

Last updated: September 28, 2013

Bonn, Germany (BBN) - Deutsche Telekom has announced the start of their high-speed Internet service on selected Singapore Airlines intercontinental flights.

This is the 11th airline to have chosen Deutsche Telekom as their broadband connectivity provider, and the third in the Asian market, a company announcement said on Friday.

“With Telekom’s In-Flight Internet service, passengers can check e-mails, browse, blog or join corporate networks via VPN. Access is provided by linking the airplanes to global networks via satellites, which are provided through Deutsche Telekom’s partner Panasonic Avionics,” it explained.

Passengers can use In-Flight Internet by paying with a credit card or through their home provider, if it is a Wi-Fi roaming partner of Deutsche Telekom.

“The addition of Singapore Airlines, one of the leading airlines in terms of customer experience worldwide, demonstrates the extent to which Deutsche Telekom has established itself in the airline Wi-Fi market,” Antje Williams, Head of In-Flight at Deutsche Telekom, said.

Deutsche Telekom launched its Wi-Fi service in 2002 and currently operates more than 55.000 HotSpots worldwide. They can also be found onboard high-speed trains in Germany, and on almost 150 airplanes.

Deutsche Telekom is one of the world’s leading integrated telecommunications companies with 144 million mobile customers, 32 million fixed-network lines and over 17 million broadband lines as of June 30, 2013.
