Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Around 7.4 million children work in Bangladesh to earn their living and nearly 1.3 million of them are engaged in risky jobs, development activists said.

Speaking at the launching of ‘Education and Youth Empowerment,’ a program of Save the Children Sweden-Denmark at CIRDAP auditorium on Monday, they said that 49 out of more than 300 types of jobs the children usually get were identified as risky.

They said about 93 percent of the children, who are in the 5-17 age bracket, work in the informal sector.

The organizers said that its support to the children and youth was intended to transform them from child labour to empowered citizens.
