Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh on Monday strongly protested the killing of one of its nationals by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on May 16.
BSF shot to death Mohammad Durul Islam, 38, son of Afzal Hossain of village Azmatpur Hudmapara of Shibganj thana of Chapainawabganj.
Darul Islam received bullet wounds when he was supervising his maize field in Bangladesh territory. Islam succumbed to his injuries hours after he was hit by BSF.
Another Bangladesh national, Faruk Ali, also died as a result of firing by BSF personnel in the same area on April 14, 2012, a foreign ministry statement said.
“While conveying the protest of the Government of Bangladesh at the continuation of such killings by BSF, the Ministry recalled the firm commitments from concerned authorities of India as well as the Indian leadership to put an end to such acts of violence,” the statement said.
It also said the foreign ministry recalled that the Indian side had reiterated their assurance with respect to incidents of firing by BSF at various forums, including most recently at the Joint Consultative Commission between the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh and External Affairs Minister of India on 7-8 May 2012.
The ministry has request that the concerned authorities of India conduct an enquiry into the incidents of killing and take appropriate action against the BSF personnel responsible for such deplorable acts.
It has also called for immediate effective action to prevent such incidents from recurring in future.
