Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Dhaka stocks closed flat in a fluctuating market Thursday After gaining for ten consecutive sessions, market operators said.
Trading activity was dull as the turnover went down by 16 percent due largely to reduction of trading hour in Ramadan (from four to three hours) on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
The market opened with a strong note, jumping 43 points in first hour and then started to dive as investors opted for profit taking on banking, pharmaceuticals and energy stocks, they added.
The benchmark DSE General Index (DGEN) inched down by 0.16 percent or 0.16 points to end at 6672.96 from previous session’s all time high of 6673.13.
The broader DSE All Shares Price Index (DSI) closed at 5562.21 with a meager loss of 0.05 per cent or 3.17 points. The DSE-20 blue chip index rose 0.07 per cent or 2.89 points to 3896.54.
Turnover decreased to BDT 14.44 billion, down 16 percent over the previous session. Out of 240 issues traded, 113 advanced, 123 lost and four remained unchanged, the DSE data showed.
