Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Dhaka stocks edged higher on Thursday, the last trading day of the week amid volatile trading throughout the session, a day after negative with turnover declined significantly as institutional investors remained inactive.
The market opened with a flying mood, gaining more than 80 points within 10 minutes. After that it swung between positive and negative territories several times throughout the whole session and finally closed 31 higher.
The benchmark General Index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) surged 31.39 points or 0.63 percent to close at 5,000.17 on the day.
Turnover value declined to BDT 2.16 billion against BDT 4.21 billion in the previous session.
Jamuna Oil was the day’s top turnover leaders with shares worth BDT 122.52 million changing hands.
Kohinoor Chemicals was the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 9.87 percent while Eighth ICB was the worst loser and lost 4.20 percent.
Most of the issues traded on the day advanced in prices as out of 256 issues traded, 188 advanced, 54 declined while 14 remained unchanged.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also gained yesterday with the Selective Categories Index closed at 9,072.04 points, after adding 32.97 points or 0.36 percent.
