Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Dhaka stocks ended marginally higher on Monday amid day-long fluctuation with lower turnover value as participation of investors’ was low centering present political scenario.
Market analysts said that moat of the investors are still following go slow policy centering the opposition party’s grand rally and observing the market situation as result turnover still low.
The presence of the investors’ at the different brokerage houses were very low following the main opposition BNP-led grand rally on Monday while many of them executed trade over phone.
The market opened with a negative note and lost 10 points within five minutes and the downtrend continued throughout the session and finally ended more than 27 points lower.
The benchmark general index of the DSE---DGEN, the yardstick of the market went up by 32.55 points or 0.75 percent to close at 4,350.47.
The broader All Shares Price Index (DSI) gained 27.71 points or 0.76 percent to close at 3,651.48. The DSE-20 Index comprising blue-chip shares also advanced 22.38 points or 0.63 percent to close at 3533.52.
The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 249 issues traded, 195 advanced, 42 declined and 12 remained unchanged.
Turnover value improved slightly and stood at BDT 1.43 billion against BDT 1.27 billion in the previous session. The previous sessions’ BDT 1.27 billion was the 39 months lowest turnover since 17 December 2008. On that day it was recorded at BDT 1.09 billion.
A total of 29.39 million shares changed hands on the day against 28.75 million in the previous session. The trade deals were 47,372 against Sunday’s 48,472.
The total market capitalization of the DSE stood at BDT 2,299.26 billion against BDT 2,287.85 billion in the previous session.
Beximco Limited topped turnover chart with shares worth BDT 90.16 million changing hands.
The other turnover leaders were Sumit Power, GP, Titas Gas, BSRM Steel Mills, LankaBangla Finance, Peoples Leasing, Square Pharma, Islami bank and United Airways.
Central Insurance was the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 7.52 percent.
It was followed by Libra Infusion, First Lease International, Samorita Hospital, Reliance Insurance, Sumit Power, Sixth ICB, Savar Refractories, Sonali Ansh and Fine Foods.
The day’s worst losers included LankaBangla Finance, Northern Jute Manufacturing, Third ICB, NLI First MF, Rekitt Benkisher, Shympur Sugar Mill, Heidelberg Cement, Hakkani Pulp and Paper, Rahim textile and Meghna pet.
