Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Dhaka stocks closed marginally higher on Thursday, the last trading day of the week amid volatility as the investors went for buying shares last moment.
Market analysts said that the market closed higher on the day as the investors went for buying shares in the late hours. But they said the lower turnover reflected that the institutional investors are remained in absence in the market.
The market opened with a negative note and lost almost 60 points within first two hours amid fluctuation. However, last two hours, the market went up steadily and finally ended more than 60 points higher.
 
The benchmark general index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN), the yardstick of the market went up by 60.46 points or 1.41 percent to close at 4,345.01.
The broader All Shares Price Index (DSI) advanced 52.00 points or 1.44 percent to close at 3,644.46. The DSE-20 Index comprising blue-chip shares also gained 34.14 points or 0.97 per cent to close at 3,523.24.
Most of the issues traded on the day advanced in prices as out of 253 issues traded, 220 advanced, 26 declined while seven remained unchanged.
Turnover value increased slightly and stood at BDT 1.85 billion against BDT 1.79 billion in the previous session.
A total of 44.56 million shares changed hands on the day against 45.01 million in the previous session. The trade deals stood at 69,936 against Wednesday’s 66,983.
The total market capitalization of the DSE stood at BDT 2,296.69 billion against BDT 2,269.91 billion in the previous session.
Beximco Limited topped the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 81.21 million changing hands.
The other turnover leaders were GP, RN Spinning, United Airways, NCC Bank, Peoples Leasing, Singer BD, MI Cement, Sumit Power and Keya Cosmetics.
Prime Life Insurance was the day’s highest gainers posting a rise of 6.66 percent. It was followed by Dacca Dyeing, Hakkani Pulp and Paper, Purabi General Insurance, Apex Spinning, Eastland Insurance, Titas Gas, Sonargaon Textile, BD COM and Rahima Foods.
The day’s worst losers included Prime Finance, NCC Bank, Singer BD, IPDC, Global Insurance, First Lease International Leasing, MBL First MF, First Bangladesh Shilpa Rin Sangstha MF, Monno Stafflers and Eastern Cables.
