Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Dhaka stocks fell on Monday as investors booked profit on banking issues, market operators said.

Cautious trading by the investors ahead of implementation of brokers’ new margin requirement pushed the volume of trade down, they added. The turnover stood at BDT 22.70 billion, down by 12 percent over the previous session.

The benchmark DSE General Index (DGEN) dropped 0.69 per cent or 59.45 points to close at 8599.41.

The broader DSE All Shares Price Index (DSI) ended at 7132.49, shedding 0.68 per cent or 48.96 points. The DSE-20 blue chip index fell 0.16 per cent or 8.26 points to 5127.14.

Out of 232 issues traded, 86 gained, 140 lost and six remained unchanged.

Non-banking financial institutions advanced 1.52 percent, breaking its losing streak over the last four sessions.
