Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Dhaka stocks continued its bull run as trading resumed on Sunday after a five-day break because of Eid-ul-Azha holiday, market operators said. 
The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) General Index (DGEN) crossed 8600-mark briefly at a final stage. At the fag end of the day, it closed on a fresh high of 8,598.17 with a rise of 1.83 percent or 154.82 points.
The DGEN added whopping 624 points in the last six consecutive trading sessions.
The broader All Shares Price Index (DSI) shot up by 1.83 percent or 128.47 points to 7136.44. The DSE-20 Index comprising blue chips was up by 1.43 percent or 72.87 points to 5147.12.
 
The buying binge led turnover to cross BDT 28.0 billion-mark after two weeks. The daily turnover reached BDT 28.2 billion, an increase of 10 percent over the previous week.
Among other major gaining sectors, non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) increased 1.55 per cent, fuel and power 3.27 percent and pharmaceuticals 2.40 percent while banking issues and telecommunications gained 0.66 percent and 0.24 percent higher respectively, according to market reports. 
 
Gainers took the lead over the losers as out of 247 issues traded 178 advanced, 64 declined and five remained unchanged.
