Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Dhaka stocks gained slightly in the last week that ended on Thursday amid domination of speculative investments.

The benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE)–DSE General Index (DGEN)–slightly went up 0.53 percent or 13.30 points to close at 2506.89.

The DSE All Shares Price Index (DSI) shed 12.38 points or 0.60 percent to end at 2090.83 and the DSE-20 blue chip index lost 0.02 percent to finish at 1925.53.

Out of 299 issues traded, 180 advanced, 80 declined, three remained unchanged and 36 were not traded in the week.

On the other hand, the average turnover for the week was down by 8.67 percent from BDT 4.72 billion to BDT 4.31 billion. However, it would be incorrect to assume that the turnover fell, because the previous week’s turnover was inflated by some irregular trading in shares of Titas Gas.

The A-category issues accounted for 81.30 percent of the total turnover in value during the week, while B-category issues accounted for 2.76 percent, N-category 8.75 percent and Z-category 6.18 percent.

“It was a week of mixed results for the market dominated by strong speculative investments,” an analyst said.
