Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Dhaka stocks gained slightly on Tuesday, as profit booking coupled with the lenders’ compliance with the SEC’s margin rules put a brake on their early rise, market operators said.

The DSE General Index (DGEN) ended at 7042.36, which was the new high, with a meagre gain of 0.22 percent or 16 points, after hitting the highest 7135 in the morning.

The broader DSE All Shares Price Index (DSI) was up by 0.17 percent or 6.67 points to 5892. The DSE-20 blue chip index fell 0.23 percent or 9.78 points to 4127.

The market began with strong note, gaining more than 100 points, but it declined steadily before edging higher, they added.

Rally in banking, telecommunications and non-banking financial institutions stocks helped the market close positive.

Out of 251 issues traded, 98 closed positive, 148 lost and five remained unchanged.
