Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) returned to the positive terrain in the last week that ended on Thursday, recovering from the previous week’s losses, market operators said.
The benchmark DSE General Index (DGEN) closed the week at 6774.87 with a gain of 1.23 percent or 121.57 points.
The broader All Shares Price Index (DSI) gained 2.32 percent or 128.81 points to 5669.85, while the DSE-20 blue chip index ended at 3913.62, rising 1.55 percent or 59.90 points.
Almost all sectors gained ground unlike the previous week when all the sectors closed red.
Most winning sector was cement, which climbed 15.33 percent to emerge as the top gaining sector in the week.
Mutual funds had a positive week finishing 9.7 percent higher due to the sharp rally on Tuesday, a day after the securities regulator relaxed credit facilities for the funds.
The bank sector rose 1.4 percent, non-banking financial institutions 1.6 percent, telecommunications 0.70 percent, pharmaceuticals 0.33 percent and fuel and power 1.31 percent.
The only losing sector during the week was life insurance, which shed 2.29 percent but the general insurance rose 0.42 percent.
Turnover stood at BDT 14.2 billion, down 19 per cent from the previous week, as the market saw four trading days instead of five due to public holiday on Wednesday. Out of 274 issues traded, 175 advanced, 81 declined, three remained unchanged and 15 were not traded.
