Dhaka stocks open with negative mode

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Dhaka stocks on Sunday, the first working day of this wee, opened with negative mode amid volatility as liquidity pressures continued in the stock market.

The benchmark Dhaka Stock General Exchange Index (DGEN) decreased by 11.26 points or 0.18 percent and stood at 6066.05 till filing of the reports at about 1:36 am (local time).

Out of 239 issues traded, 79 were positive, 147 lost and 13 remain unchanged.

On Thursday, the benchmark index of the DSE, the main gauge of the market, went down by 18.22 points or 0.29 percent to close at 6,077.31.

The broader All Shares Price Index (DSI) shed 12.95 points or 0.25 per cent to close at 5,088.41. The DSE-20 Index comprising blue-chip shares also lost 2.03 points or 0.04 per cent to close at 4,144.51 on the last working of day of the previous week.

The investors are suffering from lack of confidence following the dearth of ongoing liquidity in the market as turnover is very low amid thin participation of investors, market operators said.
