Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Dhaka stocks opened with negative mode on Wednesday, as investors went for a panic sale spree fearing further slide in share prices, market operators said.
The benchmark Dhaka Stock General Exchange Index (DGEN) decreased by 135.23 points or 2.68 percent and stood at 4916.44 till filing of the report at 12:49 pm (local time).
Out of 237 issues traded, 13 were positive, 218 lost and six remain unchanged, the DSE data showed.
The benchmark DSE General Index (DGEN), the yardstick of the market, dropped 109.55points or 2.12 per cent to close at 5,051.67 on Monday.
The broader DSE All Shares Price Index (DSI) plunged 93.19 points or 2.16 per cent to close at 4,215.74. The DSE-20 blue-chip index also fell 58.55 points or 1.52 per cent to close at 3,782.49.
The market continued to slide as frustrated investors are selling off their holdings fearing further fall of index in the coming days, as there is no sign of institutional participation in the market," a market operator said, adding that most of of big individuals remain inactive in the market following a "wait and see" policy.
