Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Dhaka stocks on Tuesday opened with negative mode, as investors went for a panic sale spree fearing further slide in share prices, market operators said.

The benchmark Dhaka Stock General Exchange Index (DGEN) decreased by 30 points or 0.52 percent and stood at 5733.93 till filing of the report at 1:39 pm (local time).

Out of 181issues traded, 22 were positive, 141lost and 18 remain unchanged, the DSE data showed.

The benchmark DSE General Index (DGEN), the yardstick of the market, slipped 137.80 points or 2.33 per cent to close at 5,763.93 on Monday.

The broader DSE All Shares Price Index (DSI) went down by 112.43 points or 2.27 per cent to close at 4,824.64. The DSE-20 blue-chip index also shed 71.94 points or 1.76 per cent to close at 4,001.41.

The investors were not behaving rationally though the government and market regulator took a series of positive measures during the last few weeks to stabilize the market, they added.

They also advised the investors to behave rationally, as the market regulator took market-friendly decisions.
