Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Dhaka stocks sustained its uprising trend on Monday for the second running session with turnover hitting highest in the year as investors’ confidence restore further to the market.
 
Market analysts said that investors’ confidence boosted up further and opted shares cheerfully as the market behaved rationally in the last few sessions.
 
The market shot up almost 120 points within first three hours. But last hour profit taking wiped-off half of the points and finally ended more than 60 points higher.
 
The general index of Dhaka Stock Index (DGEN), the main gauge of the market ended at 5,182.57, rising 60.34 points or 1.17 percent.
 
Turnover value continued on with the recent high trend – hitting the year’s highest turnover to BDT 9.90 billion against BDT 8.14 billion in the previous session.
 
This was the highest turnover since November 23, last year, when it was recorded BDT 10.51 billion.
 
The gainers and losers almost on the day as out of 265 issues traded, prices of 128 increased, 127 declined while 10 remained unchanged.
A total of 198.28 million shares changed hands on the day against 158.96 million in the previous session. The trade deals also increased to 227,013 against Sunday’s 181,616.
The total market capitalization of the DSE stood at BDT 2,644.65 billion against BDT 2,627.10 billion in the previous session.
Among the major sectors, commercial banks and non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) sectors gained 4.13 percent and 1.93 percent on the day.
Life insurance, cement, and general insurance also gained 2.97 percent, 2.71 percent and 1.40 percent respectively.
On the other hand, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and fuel and power sectors lost 0.97 percent, 1.63 percent and 2.28 percent respectively.
National Bank Limited topped the turnover list with shares worth BDT 388.35 million changing hands.
The other turnover leaders were Titas Gas, Beximco Limited, UCBL, Lafarge Surma Cement, Sumit Power, Jamuna Oil, RN Spinning, MJL BD and Grameenphone.
Bay Leasing was the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 12.08 percent.
It was followed by National Tubes, Pragati Insurance, National Polymer, Rupali Insurance, BD Finance, BSC, Kohinoor, In Tech Online and Prime Textile.
The day’s worst losers included EBL NRB Mutual Fund, RN Spinning, Midas Financing, Sinobangla Industries, Pharma Aid, Olympic, Kay and Que, Meghna Petroleum, Samata Leather and Renata.
