DMP chief for BDT 10,000 fine for public place smokers

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The fine for smoking in public places should be raised to BDT 10,000 from BDT 50 through amending the ‘Smoking and Tobacco Product Use (Control) Act – 2005’ for reducing the number of smokers in the country, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed has said.

He told this at a seminar titled ‘Keeping Public Transport Smoking Free: Necessity and Measures’ held in the capital on Saturday organized by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Bangladesh Tamak Birodhi Jote and WBB Trust.
