Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The government has extended the tenure of Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Dr Atiur Rahman by another two years, said an official at the central bank on Thursday.
“We came to know that the Prime Minister has signed a file in this regard this morning. Now the governor will get another two years to serve in the present capacity,” BB assistant spokesperson AFM Asaduzzaman told BBN in Dhaka.
Dr Atiur’s present tenure as governor of the central bank expires on April 30 next, the BB official said.
On April 28 2009, Atiur was appointed the 10th governor of the central bank.
The extension will formally come into effect through an official order from the Public Administration Ministry, the BB official said. “However, we’re yet to receive any letter.”
