Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh (BBN)-A covered van driver was burnt to death and his helper sustained severe burn injuries when miscreants firebombed their vehicle in Chapainawabganj, a northern district of Bangladesh, early Tuesday.
The firebombing took place when Bangladesh has been witnessing non-stop blockade of roads, rail and waterways alongside frequent general strike since January 5.
The miscreants, widely believed as pickets, hurled a petrol bomb on the vehicle around 5:00am Tuesday while its driver was driving the van towards Sonamasjid Land Port, local police said.
The driver of the van charred inside the vehicle while his aide sustained 80 percent burn injuries.
The helper who was an adolescent was undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The BNP-led 20-party alliance is enforcing the political agitation demanding a fresh general election.
At least 80 people, mostly innocents were killed and several hundred injured in such types of political unrest including arson attacks on highways, roads and streets across Bangladesh since January 5, the first anniversary of 10th national election.
