DRU condemns attacks on journos

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) has denounced the attacks on on-duty journalists during clashes between police and Hefajat-e-Islam men in the city.
Expressing deep concern over the attacks, DRU President Shahed Chowdhury and General Secretary Elias Khan on Sunday in a statement said, “Attacks on the journalists is deplorable. It’s a matter of concern. The authorities concerned will have to bear the responsibility if any untoward incident takes place.”
They said such attacks are against the freedom of media and free journalism, and demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible for the attacks.
At least 10 on-duty reporters suffered wounds during the clashes between police and the Hefajat men at Paltan and its adjacent areas. Of the injured, two were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Injured Gazi TV reporter Sajjad Hossain and cameraman Liton were admitted to Holly Family Hospital.
Nine of the injured media people are Daily Janakantha senior correspondent Firoz Manna, New Nation reporter Rafiqul Islam, Gazi Television reporter Sajjad Hossain and cameraman Liton, Somoy TV reporter Saiful Rudro, Mohona TV reporter Nasir Uddin, cameraman Sajib, bdnews24.com reporter Farhan Ferdous and cameraman Munna.
