Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Dhaka stocks increased sharply on Wednesday, pushing the benchmark index to cross 6700-mark for the first time, market operators said.
The benchmark DSE General Index (DGEN) surged by 1.30 percent and 86.36 points to end at 6719.83, beating previous all time high 6673.13 set on a week back.
The broader DSE All Shares Price Index (DSI) closed at 5602.56 with a gain of 1.26 per cent or 70.02 points. The DSE-20 blue chip index soared 1.62 per cent or 62.27 points to 3899.49.
Almost all the sectors, including banking, telecommunications, leasing, energy and insurers, shined but most investors betted on companies with small paid up capital for quick gain, they added.
Trading activity also got momentum as it stood at BDT 21.8 billion, up by 13 percent over the previous session and the market capitalization reached at BDT 2.98 trillion, which was a new high, the DSE data showed.
