Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) ended marginally higher while Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) edged lower on Thursday with decaling turnover value amid countrywide hartal.

The General Index of the DSE—-DGEN ended at 4,047.22 points, after gaining 11.95 points or 0.29 per cent.

The DSE Broad Index (DSEX), the benchmark index of the DSE went up by 16.38 points or 0.41 per cent to close at 3,973.28 points. The DSE-30 Index (DS30) also advanced 6.30 points or 0.44 per cent to close at 1,431.90.

The turnover on the premier bourse came down to BDT 2.14 billion which was 35 per cent lower compared to previous session’s BDT 3.15 billion.

Of the 270 issues traded on the premier bourse, 175 advanced, 77 declined and 18 remained unchanged.

Summit Purbanchol Power Company topped the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 199.58 million changing hands. Argon Denims, United Airways and Unique Hotel and Resorts were next popular stocks.

National Tubes was also the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 7.98 per cent while Green Delta Insurance was the worst loser, slumping by 18.24 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), however, closed lower with the Selective Categories Index of the CSE lost 17.97 points to close at 7,880.76 points.

Of the 168 issues traded on the port city bourse, 70 advanced, 74 declined and 24 remained unchanged. A total of 7.76 million shares traded, generating BDT 556.87 million in turnover.
