Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Dhaka stocks rallied for the fifth straight session on Wednesday with the benchmark index crossing 6500-mark for the first time, market operators said. 
The DSE General Index (DGEN), the main barometer of the market, shot up by 0.73 per cent or 47.67 points to end at 6531.60, surpassing the previous all time high of 6495.20 set on July 21.
The broader DSE All Shares Price Index (DSI) soared 0.66 per cent or 35.66 points to 5428.01, while DSE 20 comprising blue chips was up by 0.81 per cent or 30.77 points and finished at 3818.60.
The market operators said rally in banking and energy stocks took the market to the new height. 
On the other hand, reassuring signs on employment and growth in the service industry got the U.S. stock market back on an upward trajectory on Wednesday. 
Major indexes rose after Payroll Company ADP said private employers increased hiring last month and a service sector index rose unexpectedly in July. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 44.05 points or 0.4 percent to 10,680.43 while the Nasdaq Composite index rose 20.05 points or 0.9 percent to 2,303.57.
