Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Dhaka stocks plummeted Tuesday and the key index slipped almost two per cent as investors’ sell-off shares amid growing uncertainty relating to directors mandatory shares purchase.
 
Market insiders said that investors’ confidence level deteriorated further resulting into cautious trading behavior of the investors.
 
The market opened with a positive note and first one hour the DGEN gained 10 points and rest of the session it fall steadily and finally ended 98 points lower.
 
 The DGEN, the benchmark general index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), plunged 98.62 points or 1.90 per cent to close at 5,070.29 at the closing of the day’s trading.
 
The broader All Shares Price Index (DSI) slipped 81.70 points or 1.88 per cent to close at 4,261.33. The DSE-20 Index comprising blue-chip shares also lost 49.22 points or 1.26 per cent to close at 3,842.64.
 
Prices of most issues traded on the day declined as out of 261 issues traded, 204 declined, 44 advanced and 13 remained unchanged.
 
However, turnover value increased slightly to BDT 3.78 billion compared to BDT 3.56 billion in the previous session.
 
A total of 63.68 million shares changed hands on the day against 60.91 million in the previous session. The trade deals also increased to 90,209 against Monday’s 86,024.
 
The total market capitalization of the DSE stood at BDT 2,642.27 billion against BDT 2,683.64 billion in the previous session.
 
LankaBangla Finance continued to top the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 318.12 million changing hands.
 
The other turnover leaders were Grameenphone, City Bank, Jamuna Oil, Meghna Petroleum, Beximco Limited, Confidence Cement, Beximco Pharma, Titas Gas and Summit Power.
 
Peoples Insurance was the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 8.61 percent followed by Third ICB, Islami Insurance, National Tea Company, Agrani Insurance, Northern Insurance, Sixth ICB, Pragati Insurance, Nitol Insurance and Prime Insurance.
 
The day’s worst losers included Takaful Insurance, Aziz Pipes, LankaBangla Finance, RAK Ceramics, Modern Dyeing, Anwar Galvanizing, Rupali Bank and Uttara Finance.
