Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh stocks continued their record-breaking rally with daily trade turnover on the premier bourse scaled BDT 21-billion-mark on Monday, for the first time in more than six years, as investors put fresh stakes on stocks.
Turnover, an important indicator of the market, stood at BDT 21.81 billion on the country’s premier bourse, climbing further by 30.76 per cent over previous day’s mark of BDT 16.68 billion.
It was the biggest single-day transaction in the last more than six years since December 6, 2010, when the turnover totaled a record BDT 27.10 billion.
However, the all-time high turnover on the DSE was BDT 32.49 billion recorded on December 5, 2010, when the market was bullish before crash.
The total market capitalisation and trade volume also recorded all-time high on DSE.
A total of 703.42 million shares were executed with total market capitalisation BDT 3,755.11 billion on the day.
Along with soaring turnover value, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, continued to hold its soaring momentum, adding 66.95 points more to settle at a historical high of 5,669.79 points since its inception on January 28, 2013.
Analysts said investors continued to take strong position on large-cap issues, especially banks anticipating positive year-end earning declarations, pushing the DSE prime index to its new high.
The key index of the DSEX rose 66.95 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse soared 140.32 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
The market started with a flying note in the morning and the upbeat note sustained till end of the session with no sign of reversal, ultimately ended 66.95 points higher.
The two other indices also finished at fresh high.
The DS30, comprising blue chips, rose 12.91 points or 0.64 per cent to finish at 2,024.63.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 11.18 points or 0.86 per cent to close at 1,297.60 points.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 328 issues traded, 159 closed higher, 142 closed lower and 27 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Beximco, the flagship company of the industrial conglomerate Beximco Group, dominated the DSE turnover chart with about 18.58 million shares worth BDT 674 million changing hands, closely followed by Baraka Power, Islami Bank, LankaBangla Finance and Lafarge Surma Cement.
Fortune Shoes was the day’s highest gainer, posting a 9.92 per cent gain, while CVO Petrochemical Refinery as the worst loser, losing 9.98 per cent following its category change news.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also ended higher with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – soaring 140.32 points to settle at 10,646.41 points.
Gainers beat losers as 130 issues closed higher, 116 closed lower and 23 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 43.71 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 1.20 billion in turnover.
