Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Daily trade turnover on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) crossed BDT 12-billion-mark Tuesday, for the first time in three-and-a-half months, as investors continued to put fresh stakes on stocks.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at BDT 12.24 billion on the Bangladesh’s premier bourse, climbing further by more than 17 percent over previous day’s mark of BDT 10.46 billion.
It is also the biggest single-day transaction since March 22, this year, when the turnover totaled a record BDT 12.90 billion.
Along with turnover value, the total market capitalisation of the premier bourse also reached fresh all-time high at BDT 3,875 billion on the day, surpassing the previous high of BDT 3,855 billion recorded on Monday.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 34.13 points or 0.59 percent to finish at three months high since April 4 at 5,760.50.
Analysts said spontaneous participation backed by hope and excitements coupled with persistent rising trend in turnover in recent days tempted the sideline investors to inject fresh fund on large-cap stocks.
“Expectation of better dividend persuaded the investors to take fresh position on sector specific stocks,” said ana analyst.
The two other indices also finished higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips rose 9.06 points or 0.43 percent to finish at 2,114.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 3.77 points or 0.28 percent to close at 1,314.
Gainers took a strong lead over the losers, as prices of 195 securities advanced, 107 declined and 28 remained unchanged, out of the 330 issues that were traded on the DSE floor.
LankaBangla Finance topped the DSE turnover chart with about 7.45 million shares worth BDT 426 million changing hands, closely followed by Regent Textile, Prime Bank, Argon Denims and Lafarge Surma Cement.
Simtex Industries was the day’s highest gainer, posting 9.79 percent gain, while Beach Hatchery was the worst loser, losing 8.68 percent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also ended higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – advancing 78 points to settle at 10,795.
Gainers beat losers as 146 issues closed higher, 88 closed lower and 27 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 31.28 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth BDT 804 million in turnover.
