Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks edged higher on Monday after previous day’s mild correction as investors injected fresh fund on stocks amid optimism.
Brokers said the market returned to gaining streak as enthusiastic investors went on buying spree after a single-session break.
The market started with a positive note and the upbeat trend persistent till the end of the session with no sign of reversal amid increased participation from the investors.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 14.04 points or 0.29 percent to settle at 14 months high at 4,836.32, which was the highest level of DSEX since October 1, 2015, when DSEX was 4,856.96.
The two other indices also edged higher. The DS30 comprising blue chips advanced 1.07 points or 0.05 percent to finish at 1,784.36 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 2.08 points or 01.8 percent to close at 1,151.64 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, also rose to BDT 8.08 billion, which was 8.72 percent lower than the previous session’s turnover of BDT 7.33 billion.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 322 issues traded, 139 closed lower, 126 closed higher and 57 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Shasha Denims dominated the DSE turnover chart with about 4.62 million shares worth BDT 322 million changing hands, followed by Bangladesh Building Systems BDT 264 million, IFAD Autos BDT 228 million, Keya Cosmetic BDT 208 million and Beximco BDT 175 million.
Central Pharmaceuticals was the day’s highest gainer, posting a 9.52 percent gain, while Paramount was the worst loser, slumping by 6.28 percent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – advancing 29.77 points to settle at 9,061.11 points.
Gainers beat losers as 119 issues closed higher, 86 closed lower and 41 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 19.96 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth over BDT 491 million in turnover.
