Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) plunged a new low Monday, hitting fresh 5-year low amid liquidity problem and investors’ lack of interest to the market.

With a volatile outlook, the DSE general index ended at 4,116.25 points, losing 20.61 more points or 0.49 per cent.

The turnover of the country’s premier bourse — DSE stood at BDT 1.01 billion at the end of the day’s trading session, the lowest since January 8, 2008, when it was recorded BDT 815.47 million.

Of the 265 issues traded on the premier bourse, 67 advanced, 157 declined and 41 remained unchanged.

United Airways topped the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 75.20 million changing hands.

NCC Bank Mutual Fund One was the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 7.89 per cent while Rekitt Benckisher was the worst loser, plunging by 3.96 per cent.

The Selective Categories Index of Chittagong Stock Exchange closed the day at 7,985.64 points, after falling 60.23 points.

Losers beat gainers 116 to 35 with 18 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse with BDT 137.81 million in turnover which was second lowest in 5-year.
