Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks closed higher on Sunday, with key index of the premier bourse crossing the 4,700-mark after one month, as optimistic investors were active on sector specific stocks.
Brokers said the market extended the winning spell for the four consecutive sessions as the investors’ sentiment regarding the market remained optimistic.
The market started with an upward note and the upturn continued till the session closed, ultimately ended over 23 points higher over the previous session.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 23.45 points to finish at 4,721.98 points and Selective Categories Index – CSCX – of the port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also finished higher advancing 41.69 points to settle at 8,847.44 points.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 23.45 points or 0.49 percent to finish at 4,721.98 points.
The two other indices also closed higher. The DS30 comprising blue chips advanced 5.35 points or 0.30 percent to settle at 1,763.81 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 3.89 points or 0.35 percent to close at 1,126.59 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, however, came down to BDT 5.748 billion, which was 8.60 percent lower than the previous day’s turnover of BDT 6.28 billion.
The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 311 issues traded, 158 closed higher, 107 closed lower and 46 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
AB Bank dominated the turnover chart with 10.72 million shares worth BDT 225 million changing hands, followed by Quasem Drycells BDT 147 million, National Tea Company BDT 144 million, Bangladesh Building Systems BDT 143 million and Mithun Knitting BDT 138 million.
Hakkani Pulp and Paper was the day’s best performer, posting a 9.88 percent gain, while Desh Garment was the worst loser, plunging by 16.36 percent following its price adjustment after record date.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also finished higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – advancing 41.69 points to settle at 8,847.44 points.
Gainers beat losers as 124 issues closed higher, 85 closed lower and 29 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 13.72 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth nearly BDT 405 million in turnover.
