ECB to maintain gradualist approach

London, England (BBN)- European Central Bank (ECB) President Jean-Claude Trichet said in a speech to central bankers that the ECB would continue to change its policy at a measured pace.

The Euro zone economy as a whole continued to contract in the spring, but by only 0.1 percent, leading some ECB officials to acknowledge that the recession is at least bottoming out. Officially, however, the ECB only expects to return to growth around the middle of 2010.
