Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The first conference of the Bangladesh Economists’ Forum (BEF) will begin Saturday in the capital Dhaka to suggest future development strategy for the country.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith is scheduled to open the two-day long conference at Radisson Hotel in Dhaka Saturday morning. Some other ministers will chair different sessions.
More than 500 economists, researchers, experts, policymakers and journalists are expected to attend the conference to discuss a series of issues relating to growth, macro and financial policies, fiscal policy and capital markets, trade, aid and infrastructure, poverty reduction, human development, sustainable development and public policy-making and institutions.
A well-thought-out roadmap for development of Bangladesh is likely to emerge from the proceedings of the BEF conference, according to the organisers.
The Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), the Policy Research Institute (PRI) and the Bangladesh Bank (BB) are co-sponsoring the conference of the BEF, a new platform of professional economists.
Keynote lectures will be delivered by Professor Michael Lipton of the United Kingdom, an old friend of Bangladesh, Professor Rehman Sobhan, Chairman, the Centre for Policy Dialogue, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, Chairman, the BRAC and Dr. Azizur Rahman Khan, Professor, University of California at Riverside, they added.
