Last updated: September 19, 2009

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Dhaka city dwellers are about to be in comfort as chronic traffic congestion on the roads and streets has started easing significantly as people are departing for their homes on the occasion of an extended Eid holiday.

Thousands of homebound people started leaving the capital after office hours on Thursday to celebrate the festival with enough time in hand as offices are not expected to resume until September 23.

Whatever crowd remained in the capital on Saturday was around major shopping locations, where people were seen busy shopping on the last moments.

The government, by an executive order, has extended the Eid vacation by a day up to September 23 (Wednesday) if Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on September 22 while the announcement also said, the earlier declared holiday (September 20-22) will remain unchanged if Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on September 21 (Monday).
