Eid-il-fitr to be celebrated on Saturday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday as the moon of the holy month Shawal was not sighted anywhere in Bangladesh on Thursday.

Preparations have already been made to hold Eid-ul-Fitr jamaats in the capital and other districts across the country.

The main Eid congregation will be held at the National Eidgah in the High Court premises in the capital Dhaka at 8:30 am (local time) on Eid day.

Five jamaats will be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, scheduled at 7:30am, 8:30am, 9:30am, 10:30am and the last at 11:15am on that day.

There will be separate arrangements for women and foreign diplomats and their wives to perform Eid prayers at those premises.

The country's biggest Eid congregation will be held at Sholakhia Eidgah under Kishoreganj district.

The National Moon Sighting Committee met at the Islamic Foundation auditorium in Dhaka at 7:00pm on Thursday to scour the sky for Shawal moon.But the committee did not get any news of moon-sighting from any of the districts.

President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in separate messages greeted the countrymen and the Muslim ummah nations on the occasion.

Thousands of people have already left the capital to celebrate the Eid with their loved ones.
