Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, is being celebrated across Bangladesh on Monday with feasting, family reunions, and lively festivities.
Millions of Muslim devotees attended Eid congregations at mosques, Eidgahs, and makeshift prayer grounds in the capital Dhaka and elsewhere in the country.
The main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation in Bangladesh was held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises in the capital at about 8:30am on the day.
Besides, five Eid jamaats were held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus offered prayers along with hundreds of devotees from all walks of life at the National Eidgah Maidan.
Chief Justice, members of the advisory council of the interim government, judges, senior political leaders and high level civil and military officials also offered their prayers at National Eidgah.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin offered Eid prayers at Bangabhaban in the capital.
An Eid jamaat was held at 8:30am on the premises of the old venue of Dhaka Int’l Trade Fair in the capital’s Agargaon for the first time.
During the Eid prayers Muslims prayed for divine blessings to help strengthen national unity against all odds and destructive activities.
After the prayers, a Mughal-style colorful procession was brought out from the venue. A two-day fair began there in the morning on the occasion of Eid. The fair will remain between 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Law enforcement agencies have implemented extensive security measures across the country, including in Dhaka, to ensure the safety and order of Eid celebrations.
On the occasion Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in a message greeted the countrymen as well as the Muslims across the world.
Offering munajat at the graves of late parents and close relatives, visiting the residences of friends and relatives and entertaining with semai and others sweetmeats and hosting food parties are other features of the occasion.
Children not only get new clothes and shoes, but also receive cash gifts called "Salami" from their elders, relatives and well-wishers.
The government recently extended the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday for public sector employees, granting a nine-day break from March 28 to April 05.
State-run Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar, along with other private TV channels and radio stations, are airing special programmes to mark the Eid festival.
Improved meals are being provided at government hospitals, prisons, orphanages, and shelters.
