Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims, will be observed across the country on Monday if the Shawal moon is seen this evening.
A meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee will be held on Sunday to review the news of moon sighting of the holy month of Shawal and fix the date of Eid-ul-Fitr of 1438 Hijri.
All preparations for holding the Eid congregations have already been completed across the country.
A three-day public holiday will begin on Sunday on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
The government has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr with due respect and in a smooth manner. National flags will be hoisted at government, autonomous and non-government offices and other important establishments.
National flags and flags inscribed with “Eid Mubarak’ will be installed at important traffic islands and light posts in Dhaka city.
Besides, designated government offices and other establishments would be illuminated on the night following the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels will air special programmes and newspapers publish supplements on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Improved diets will be served in hospitals, jails and orphanages.

City corporations will remain open the children parks, allowing free entry of all visitors on occasion of Eid.
The day will be observed in Bangladesh missions abroad too in a befitting manner.
The main Eid congregation in the capital will be held at the National Eidgah, adjacent to the premises of the Supreme Court, at 8.30am.
Five Eid congregations will be held at the Baitul Muqarram National Mosque – at 7:00 am, 8:00 am, 9:00 am, 10:00 am and 10.45 am, according to a press statement, issued by the Islamic Foundation.
Law enforcement agencies, including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police, will ensure security in and around the main Eid congregation.
The entire country has been brought under stringent security measure, including in the capital city, with deployment of RAB and police for peaceful and smooth celebration of the holy Eid.
The country’s biggest Eid congregation of the country will be held on Sholakia Eidgha Maidan in Kishorganj.
Against the backdrop of the last year’s militant attack, the government has taken unprecedented security measures for the country’s largest Eidgah Sholakia, where hundreds of thousands of people offer prayers on the Eid day.
Thousands of people have already left the capital Dhaka for their homes outside the capital to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones.
A total of 410 congregations of holy Eid-ul-Fitr would be held in the capital this year. Of those, 230 congregations will be held in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 180 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas.
