Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has achieved more than doubled growth in terms of employment generation in 2014-15 fiscal year compare to the previous fiscal year.

In the last fiscal year eight EPZs under BEPZA created employment opportunities for 31,084 Bangladeshi nationals, said a press statement of the BEPZA.

The figure was 15,009 in the fiscal year of 2013-14, which shows an increase of 107.10 per cent.

Thus, BEPZA is playing a vital role to implement vision 2021 by creating huge employment opportunities.

Among the 31,084 new employments in the last fiscal year, 9,167 persons added in Karnaphuli EPZ while 8,194 in Chittagong EP and 5,347 in Comilla EPZ.

Moreover, 4,864 persons get the employment opportunity in Uttara EPZ, 4,084 in Adamjee EPZ, 1,129 in Ishwardi EPZ and 182 in Mongla EPZ, the statement added.

On the other hand, job opportunities for 15,009 Bangladeshi nationals were created in 2013-14 fiscal year.

Out of which 6,575 persons were employed in Karnaphuli EPZ, 5,133 in Adamjee EPZ, 2,460 in Uttara EPZ, 1,761 in Comilla EPZ, 1,123 in Ishwardi EPZ and 488 persons in Dhaka EPZ.

As of June 2015, the cumulative employment stands at 4,20,101 in the eight EPZs under BEPZA which was 3,89,017 till June 2014.

Meanwhile, 17 new industries started commercial operation in the last fiscal year.

At the ends of the FY 2014-15 the total operational industries of BEPZA reached to 445 from 428 of the 2013-14 FY.

Among the operational industries 248 are 100 per cent foreign, 66 joint venture and 131 are fully Bangladeshi ownership.
